FIU provides access to LinkedIn Learning (formerly Lynda.com), where you can get certifications and technology training on a wide variety of subjects.
FIU Law Clinical and Externship Programs can view a recommended Playlist below.
Or, you can create your own! Log into FIU LinkedIn Learning or find out more about How to Use LinkedIn Learning.
Procertas training focuses on Word, Excel and PDF for legal practice; the trainings for LinkedIn Learning are skills training in Office (and much more). Proficiency requires doing both. Also, ever wondered how to get organized and obtain proficiency in Outlook? LinkedIn Learning has got you covered.
And . . . completed courses automatically show in your LinkedIn profile, demonstrating your technology skill competency.
"Cleansing" your Word documents of personal and historical information is key in protecting the document once you share it with others. Prior versions, annotations, and hidden text are just some of metadata contained in Word documents that can be easily viewed if it is not erased.
Removing hidden data and personal data protects your work. It ensures client confidentiality (Did you accidently share a pleading with annotations from a client? File those with a court?), protects your attorney work-product (Did you make an argument, then delete it, strategically realizing that the argument may open up the possibility for a Motion to Dismiss?) and prevents "accidents" (Did you think you redacted text, but actually hid it from view because the font color changed or you just cut it without pasting it?)
And converting to PDF does not delete this metadata; it may hide it further, but it is still there and anyone with Acrobat DC can pull it up again.
Protect yourself, protect your clients, and cleanse your documents before you share or file them.
