The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea is established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to adjudicate disputes arising out of the interpretation and application of the Convention.

The Tribunal has jurisdiction to decide claims of United States nationals against Iran and of Iranian nationals against the United States, which arise out of debts, contracts, expropriations or other measures affecting property rights and other matters between the two Governments.

If negotiations are unsuccessful, the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body can render rulings. Rulings can be appealed to a seven member appellate panel only as to points of law.

The United Nations Security Council created the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) by resolution 955 of 8 November 1994, for the prosecution of persons responsible for genocide and other serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of Rwanda between 1 January 1994 and 31 December 1994.
